On July 10, 2026, Abidjan hosted an interministerial forum on critical minerals under the auspices of the African Development Bank, with about thirty African ministers attending. Ivorian Minister of Mines Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly stated that 35% of the territory sits on Birimian formations rich in gold and three-quarters are potentially rich in critical minerals. Côte d'Ivoire adopted the Integrated Mineral and Energy Resources Policy (PIRME) 2026-2040, a total investment of 38,000 billion CFA francs, with 88% expected from the private sector.
