Rano recorded only two diphtheria deaths in 2026 - Kano

The Kano State Government dismissed reports of 50 children dying from diphtheria in Rano Local Government Area, stating that official surveillance data does not support this figure. Professor Muhammad Adamu Abbas, Director-General of the Kano State Centre for Disease Control, reported 32 diphtheria cases with 29 cumulative deaths from July 2023 to August 2026, including only two deaths in 2026. He emphasized the importance of vaccination and early medical intervention in preventing deaths from the disease.
