The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, demanded the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, currently imprisoned in Sokoto for treason. During a meeting in Enugu, President General Chief Senator John Azuta-Mbata stated that Kanu's release is a prerequisite for any promises of Igbo votes.
