Kenyans Given 5 Days to Submit Views on Proposed 8% Fuel VAT

Kenyans have five days to submit their views on a proposed law to reduce VAT on petroleum products to 8%. The Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, introduced in Parliament by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, proposes amendments to the VAT Act and the Excise Duty Act, including changes to fuel taxation and the calculation of excise duty on tiles. This follows a previous reduction of VAT from 16% to 8% in April 2026, aimed at cushioning Kenyans against rising global fuel prices caused by the Middle East conflict.
