Assimi Goïta travels to Burkina Faso for a working and friendship visit

Malian President Assimi Goïta is expected in Burkina Faso on Thursday, November 5, for a working and friendship visit, according to the country’s state protocol directorate. He is due to meet President Ibrahim Traoré to discuss strategic issues related to cooperation within the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger have launched joint initiatives in defense, the economy, diplomacy and social affairs to align their policies. Traoré was appointed acting president of the Confederation of Sahel States in 2025, succeeding Goïta.
