Our patience must not be mistaken for weakness, Idoma Diaspora tells Tinubu

The Idoma Association USA called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently address persistent insecurity in Benue South. In an open letter, the group condemned recurring attacks, especially those on July 11-12, 2026, against Akpachi village and Otukpo-Nobi communities, which killed at least 20 people. It claimed traditional authorities had alerted security agencies before the attacks and demanded a stronger security presence. While acknowledging Governor Hyacinth Alia's visit to Otukpo, the association stressed that condolences must be accompanied by concrete measures.

Habila, a physiotherapist with the Federal Ministry of Works, was reportedly found dead under suspicious circumstances in July 2026. The group demands an independent investigative panel with international observers, a comprehensive forensic autopsy, and witness protection. The petition was copied to several local and international organizations, including the Inspector-General of Police, UN Women, Amnesty International, and the European Union.
