National Gas Production: What Still Blocks the Reduction of Electricity Prices in Senegal

The gas production from the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim field, launched in January 2025, is failing to meet Senegal's energy needs, with only 35 million cubic feet per day allocated to the local market. Although President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announced that a portion of the LNG could be directed to the domestic market by 2027, contractual agreements on volumes and prices are yet to be established. Additionally, the supply chain to transport the gas to power plants is still incomplete.
