Pakistan army chief in Tehran: Can diplomacy prevent new US-Iran fighting?

Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Tuesday evening to meet Iranian officials as diplomatic efforts seek to prevent renewed fighting involving Iran, the United States and Israel. It is his fifth visit to Iran since the April ceasefire between Tehran and Washington, brokered by Islamabad. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is accompanying him, and Munir is expected to meet Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi first. The visit follows Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s talks in Tehran on Monday and comes two weeks after Pakistan and its allies agreed to accelerate the deployment of forces to Saudi Arabia, which has faced repeated attacks by Iran-backed Houthi fighters.
