The Democratic Republic of Congo is committed to reorganizing its mining sector, particularly artisanal exploitation, through SAEMAPE. Following recent tragedies, such as the one at the Kalando mine, the regularization of Artisanal Exploitation Zones (ZEA) has become a priority to reduce accidents and restore state authority. Jean-Paul Kapongo, Director General of SAEMAPE, led a mission to Kolwezi to assess pilot ZEAs and identify needs for a more secure and productive exploitation.
