Everton beat Newcastle 3-1 to reach League Cup quarter-finals

Everton beat Newcastle 3-1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday to reach the League Cup quarter-finals, where they will face fourth-tier Fleetwood. James Garner opened the scoring, Hayden Hackney extended the lead before half-time and Thierno Barry made it 3-0 in the 69th minute; Dan Burn scored a late consolation for Newcastle. The win ended David Moyes’s side’s three-match winless run as Everton pursue their first League Cup final appearance in 43 years. Before kick-off, Everton said Jack Grealish was unavailable because of a breach of club discipline.
