Ship buster missiles sink old US warship in live fire training off Scotland

An old US warship, USS Klakring, was sunk during a training exercise involving US forces and the Royal Navy off the west coast of Scotland. The decommissioned frigate, launched in 1983 and decommissioned in 2013, was hit by missiles and a torpedo during Exercise Atlantic Thunder 2026 before sinking in the North Atlantic. The Royal Navy also tested 'ship-busting' weapons, including an NSM missile and Sea Venom missiles fired from a Wildcat helicopter, in a first live-fire scenario. The US Navy stated that extensive pre-exercise cleaning minimized environmental impact.
