Human Rights Watch has released a damning report on the war in eastern DRC, accusing the Rwandan army and M23 rebels of conducting a vast campaign of forced recruitment and abusive detention between mid-2024 and December 2025. Victims include soldiers, Wazalendo fighters, civilians, and children as young as 12. The 87-page document, titled "Death was everywhere," details large-scale roundups in North and South Kivu provinces, with murders, torture, forced labor, and child soldier recruitment in the Rumangabo and Tshanzu training camps.
