Strong democratic institutions key to tackling insecurity — Saraki

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki said that strong democratic institutions are essential to addressing Nigeria's security challenges, while urging lawmakers to promote transparency and strengthen public trust in governance. Speaking at The Platform event organized by The Covenant Nation in Lagos, he emphasized the legislature's critical role in overseeing government borrowing, budgets, and public appointments. Saraki argued that national stability cannot be achieved through security measures alone, as trust in institutions is equally important. He also defended the record of the 8th Senate, stating it was not a rubber stamp legislature.
