Simelane seeks talks over Cape Town’s proposed Annandale Farm development

Human Settlements Minister Thembi Simelane has requested a meeting with the City of Cape Town about plans to develop 72 hectares of land near Dunoon. The City bought Annandale Farm for R184.7 million in 2017, using money reportedly redirected from a planned extension of the Wolwerivier Temporary Relocation Area, according to the GOOD party. Residents and councillor Bulelwa Mayende say the land was meant to address overcrowding in Dunoon and fault the City for not consulting them. The City says the development is intended to include affordable housing and that private-sector partnerships could help deliver homes despite funding constraints.
