The Nigerian Federal Government announced that the screening of Nigerians in South Africa who registered for voluntary evacuation following xenophobic attacks ends today. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa said the exercise, conducted jointly by the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria and South African authorities, will determine the exact number cleared for evacuation. Initially 130 Nigerians registered, but the number has risen to over 1,000. Foreign Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu confirmed that the government will finalize details for deploying aircraft to bring citizens home.
