Food inflation still rising despite drop in headline rate

Nigeria's food inflation rose to 17.52% in June 2026 despite a slight slowdown in headline inflation to 15.91%, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Prices of crayfish, pepper, tomatoes, and other food items increased. The highest food inflation was recorded in Kogi (53.02%), Niger (43.83%), and Benue (40.83%).
