Tanganyika: UNHCR facilitates return of over 500 Congolese refugees from Zambia

The UNHCR completed the return of a third convoy of Congolese refugees from Zambia on June 5, 2026, bringing the total to over 500 people (184 households) repatriated via Pweto territory in Haut-Katanga. These individuals had fled since 2017 due to atrocities by the Bakata-Katanga militia. The returnees receive assistance and a return kit at the Sante transit center before being escorted to their home areas. The operation continues with more returns expected in the coming weeks.
