Oyo State Governor and APM presidential candidate Seyi Makinde backed the creation of state police, pledging to decentralise Nigeria’s security system if elected in 2027. Speaking on Jay FM 101.9 in Jos, he said states should establish their forces at their own pace and that safeguards must prevent abuse and protect citizens’ rights. He recalled that South-West governors adopted Amotekun, whose operatives gather intelligence and work with federal security agencies. Makinde also called for jobs and economic opportunities for Nigeria’s large youth population.
