NYSC kidnapping: Suspects’ identities vindicate us, IPOB says

After five suspects were arraigned over the abduction of prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members on the Owerri–Onitsha Expressway in Imo State, IPOB called for a thorough investigation. The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has urged authorities to reopen the investigation into the assassination of Dele Giwa, co-founder of Newswatch magazine, who was killed by a parcel bomb delivered to his home on October 19, 1986. No one has been brought to justice in the 40 years since his death, which the Guild says tests Nigeria’s commitment to press freedom and the rule of law. NGE President Eze Anaba and General Secretary Onuoha Ukeh called for credible evidence to be examined and records preserved, while cautioning against condemning anyone without proof. The Guild also welcomed the publication of Dele Giwa’s Granite Journalism, which documents his writings and tributes to preserve his professional legacy.
