Zimbabwe: MPs vote to extend presidential term

Zimbabwe's lower house of parliament approved a bill on Thursday to extend the presidential term from five to seven years. The bill now goes to the upper house, dominated by the ruling ZANU-PF party. If passed, President Emmerson Mnangagwa will remain in power until 2030, although his current term ends in 2028. War veterans oppose the constitutional amendment; their appeal was rejected by the Constitutional Court on Wednesday, but they vow to continue their legal fight.
