BEDC Strike: NUEE Alleges Abduction and Brutalisation of Edo Chairman, Threatens Nationwide Strike

NUEE accused security operatives of abducting and brutalising its Edo State chairman, William Uwumarogie, and another member, Mathew Eromobor. West Zone vice-chairman David Ehigiamuose said the two were arrested on October 22 while union members were keeping watch at the Benin Electricity Distribution Company headquarters in Benin City during industrial action, then released around 1 a.m. the following day and taken for medical treatment. The union demanded that military personnel leave the premises, that the members receive adequate medical care, and that their confiscated phones and belongings be returned within 24 hours. It threatened to extend the strike nationwide if its demands were not met.
