Illegal Gold Panning: The Gendarmerie Legion of Abengourou Destroys 109 Dredges and Arrests Three Individuals

From August 16 to 27, 2026, the Gendarmerie Legion of Abengourou, supported by the GSLOI, conducted operations against illegal gold panning in the Indénié-Djuablin region. These interventions led to the dismantling of several clandestine sites and the destruction of 109 dredges, 134 pumps, 204 crushers, and other equipment. Three individuals were arrested during these operations, which took place in Aniassué, Bébou, and other localities. The destroyed equipment highlights the scale of illegal gold exploitation in the region.
