Matatu Operators in Nairobi Announce 50% Fare Hike, Nationwide Strike on Monday

Matatu operators in Nairobi have announced a 50% fare increase in response to rising fuel prices. This decision follows the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) raising petrol prices by Ksh16.65 per litre and diesel prices by Ksh46.29 per litre. Additionally, a nationwide strike of all public service vehicles is set to begin on Monday, May 18, due to increasing economic challenges in the transport sector.
