More than 55,000 Sudanese refugees flee to Chad as UN calls for funding

More than 55,000 Sudanese refugees have fled to Chad this year, worsening a humanitarian crisis that will deteriorate further without increased funding, the UN warns. The number of arrivals in eastern Chad has sharply accelerated, with the transit center in Tine hosting over 4,300 people in urgent need of shelter, water, and sanitation. Since the outbreak of civil war in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, over 11 million people have been displaced, including 6.4 million internally and 3.5 million refugees in neighboring countries.
