Attack on Niamey Airport: 22 Assailants Killed, First Report from Nigerien Authorities – La Nouvelle Tribune

At least 35 people were killed Thursday, June 18 in an attack on Niamey's Diori Hamani International Airport, according to Niger's Defense Ministry. The toll includes 11 soldiers, two civilians, and 22 assailants. Authorities say they have regained full control of the site and the airport remains operational. This attack comes less than five months after a previous assault in January 2026 claimed by the Islamic State.
