Photos: UN urges global aid after China, Nepal floods kill over 1,300

The UN has made an urgent appeal for international aid after catastrophic flooding on August 26 killed at least 1,384 people in Nepal and the Tibet region of China, leaving over 5,500 missing, including about 800 foreigners. UN Resident Coordinator Lila Pieters Yahia warned of cholera risks and emphasized the urgent need for investments in sanitation and protection for vulnerable women and girls. The Nepali government has also filed a formal climate compensation claim to international partners.
