Ghana evacuates the remaining 41 citizens from South Africa as Tanzania also flies its nationals back home

The Ghanaian government has evacuated the final 41 citizens from South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks, bringing the total to nearly 1,900 Ghanaians repatriated since May 2026. Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and encouraged returnees to rebuild their lives. The remains of two Ghanaians killed in the attacks were also repatriated, raising the total number of deaths related to the evacuation to three. Meanwhile, Tanzania has also brought back its citizens from South Africa, although the exact number of returnees is yet to be determined.
