Tenerife’s Jesus De Miguel honoured in tearful tribute by teammates, fans

Thousands gathered at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to honour forward Jesus De Miguel, who died after an on-field collision on Monday. His black-clad teammates placed flowers where he fell beneath a banner reading “Eterno Demi 9,” while supporters chanted his name. Captain Enric Gallego fought back tears as he recalled De Miguel’s thoughtfulness and said it was “tremendously unfair” to speak of him in the past tense. De Miguel’s parents, sister, wife and daughter were also greeted with thunderous applause.
