Congo-Kinshasa: Ebola Outbreak - 'Every Epidemic Begins in a Community and Ends in a Community'

The World Health Organization (WHO) is facing an Ebola outbreak caused by a rare strain of the virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. To date, 51 confirmed cases have been reported in the Ituri and North Kivu provinces, with nearly 600 suspected cases and 139 suspected deaths. The WHO emphasizes the importance of a rapid, community-centered response to interrupt transmission, as no licensed vaccine or specific treatment currently exists for this rare strain.
