On June 6, 2026, the Nigerian army rescued 360 civilians held captive by Boko Haram's JAS faction in a fortified enclave in the Mandara mountains, southern Borno state. The operation, part of Operation Hadin Kai, involved special forces and intelligence following the March 3, 2026 attack on Ngoshe. Two infants died from exhaustion during the extraction. Survivors were taken to reception centers.
