Crime stats: These are provinces with the highest murder, rape and carjackings in SA

South Africa's latest crime statistics show that Gauteng records the highest number of murders and carjackings, while KwaZulu-Natal reports the most rape cases. During the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year, Gauteng recorded 1,276 murders, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 1,179. Although the national murder count fell by 5.9%, thousands of South Africans continue to fall victim to violent crime.
