June 12: Atiku was part of decision for rotational presidency — FG

The Nigerian Federal Government revealed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was among the political leaders who agreed to the adoption of rotational presidency after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, made the disclosure during a World Press Conference in Abuja marking Nigeria's 27th Democracy Day Anniversary. Akume recalled that PDP leaders met in Kaduna under the late Chief Solomon Lar and Alhaji Adamu Ciroma to deliberate on the way forward, leading to the agreement on power rotation between North and South. The statement is seen as a veiled attempt to puncture Atiku's 2027 presidential bid amid a southern presidency.
