Cross River facing renewed threat of wildlife poaching, trafficking - NESREA

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has raised concerns over a resurgence of wildlife poaching and trafficking in Cross River State, Nigeria. Speaking at a capacity-building workshop for judges and magistrates in Calabar, director Raymond Anunobi highlighted the increasing collaboration between international criminal syndicates and local accomplices. The workshop, organized under the EU-funded GUARD Wildlife Project, aims to strengthen prosecution of wildlife crimes. Conservator of Cross River National Park, Joseph Ntui, linked wildlife trafficking to money laundering, insecurity, and arms proliferation.
