Nigerian chemical engineer Godswill Chidiebere Agomuo has called for increased local formulation and production of specialized oilfield chemicals. He stated that this could reduce operating costs, promote technology transfer, and strengthen Nigeria's technical capacity in the oil and gas industry. Currently, Nigeria's crude oil production costs are about $40 per barrel, significantly higher than the OPEC+ average of $10 per barrel.
