2026 World Cup: DR Congo holds Portugal to a draw in its return to the global stage

The Democratic Republic of Congo earned a 1-1 draw against Portugal in their first Group K match at NRG Stadium in Houston. João Neves put Portugal ahead in the 6th minute, but Yoane Wissa equalized just before halftime. Despite Portuguese dominance and chances from Cristiano Ronaldo, the Leopards held on for a historic point, more than 50 years after their last World Cup appearance in 1974 as Zaire.
