Africa Spirits wins ‘Glen’ whisky brand war against Scotch Whisky Association

Kenyan company Africa Spirits Limited (ASL) won a trademark and passing-off case against the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) over its ‘Glen Rock’ whisky brand. SWA, representing over 90 whisky producers worldwide, had sought to stop ASL from manufacturing and selling Glen Rock No. 1, claiming its packaging and advertising could confuse consumers into believing it was Scottish-made. The court ruled in favor of ASL, affirming the brand’s legitimacy.
