The latest Met Office report states that extreme weather is becoming the new normal in the UK. The hottest day in southern England is now typically 4.5°C warmer than in 1961-1990. 2025 was the warmest year on record since 1884, and the decade 2016-2025 was 1.33°C warmer than 1961-1990. Over 2,700 people may have died from heat-related causes in May and June 2025 in England and Wales.
