Belarus frees 25 political prisoners in return for US sanctions relief

Belarus freed 25 political prisoners, including human rights activists and journalists, following an agreement with the United States that lifted sanctions on two Belarusian companies. This release follows negotiations between US envoy John Coale and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. Coale expressed hope to see hundreds more prisoners freed in about a month.
