BYD’s Yangwang U9 Xtreme Tops 500 km/h, a First for a Production Car

On November 1, 2026, BYD’s Yangwang U9 Xtreme reached 503.17 km/h on a closed section of the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The FIA recognized the speed, and Guinness World Records awarded the car records for the fastest production car and fastest production electric car, both measured in a single direction. Driven by German racer Marc Basseng, the 3,019-horsepower car surpassed its previous 496.22 km/h record, set in 2025, as well as the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+’s 490.5 km/h mark.
