DRC Ebola cases surpass 2,000 as more health workers begin strike

The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reached 2,011, including 754 deaths, as healthcare workers at Bunia General Hospital in Ituri province began a strike on Wednesday over unpaid wages and poor working conditions. The outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo strain with no vaccine or treatment, is the third largest and fastest growing on record according to Doctors Without Borders. The World Health Organization warned the official death toll may be two to four times higher, and a first clinical trial of an antiviral drug has launched.
