Henry Ndukuba, Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), directed Alexander Ibezim, Bishop of Awka Diocese and Archbishop of the Province of the Niger, to take six months’ leave with immediate effect. Ibezim is barred from carrying out church duties while allegations and recent developments in the diocese are investigated. Samuel Ezeofor, Bishop of Aguata, will oversee Awka Diocese and coordinate the Province of the Niger during his absence. Ndukuba said the administrative measure is intended to ensure an impartial inquiry and promote peace and reconciliation, not to discipline Ibezim.
