About 600 workers from Section 3B of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project began protesting on October 26 at the Hitech Construction yard in Awi, Cross River State. They allege poor working conditions, pay cuts, intimidation and that newly arrived Lebanese expatriates refused to work with state liaison officer Asuquo Ukpayang. Workers say paid hours were cut from eight to two and night shifts were omitted from payment records; they are calling for fair treatment and the removal of several project managers.
