Kasaï-Central: Judith Suminwa launches construction of 20 MW Mbombo power plant to improve electricity supply in Kananga and surrounding areas

Congolese Prime Minister Judith Suminwa launched construction of the Mbombo hydroelectric power plant in Kananga on October 27, 2026. Located on the Lulua River about 15 kilometres from the city, the planned 20 MW facility is intended to improve electricity supply in Kananga and nearby areas. ANSER oversees the project, construction was awarded to Angélique International Limited, and Hydro Mbombo SAS—established following an agreement between the FPI and ANSER—will manage the future plant. Suminwa described the project as the fulfillment of government commitments and said Kasaï-Central should share in national investment alongside all other provinces.
