FG announces 2 weeks closure of First Niger Bridge for repair works

The Federal Ministry of Works has announced the closure of the First Niger Bridge in Onitsha for repair works, starting from September 7, 2026. This decision follows a visit by Minister of Works, David Umahi, who observed vandalism damage. Emergency maintenance works, assigned to contractor SKECC, are expected to be completed by September 21, 2026. Road users are advised to use the Second Niger Bridge during the closure period.
