CoCT urged not to 'waste taxpayer money' on tariffs appeal

The South African Property Owners’ Association (SAPOA) urged the City not to waste taxpayer money and to accept the Western Cape High Court ruling that certain fixed charges should not be linked to property value. The High Court declared the City's fixed tariffs unlawful and invalid, stating they are inconsistent with the Constitution and national legislation. Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis defended the use of property values to determine fixed charges to protect lower- and middle-income households.
