In Zimbabwe, the legal battle against a possible extension of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's term continues. The Constitutional Court rejected on June 17 the war veterans' challenge to a constitutional reform project that would extend the presidential term from five to seven years and end direct election of the head of state. Lawyer Lovemore Madhuku said his clients will pursue their fight in other courts, including the High Court and a new appeal to the Constitutional Court after the National Assembly vote. If the reform passes, Mnangagwa could stay in power until 2030.
