Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced on Friday that the military had 'neutralised' more than 13,000 'terrorists' over the past year, with casualties down 81% since he took office in 2023. He added that 124,000 fighters and dependants had laid down their arms through Operation Safe Corridor. Despite this, Nigeria is grappling with a spiralling insecurity crisis, with groups linked to ISIL and al-Qaeda, as well as criminal gangs, abducting citizens. The US military is now supporting Nigeria with precision strikes after unsubstantiated allegations of 'Christian genocide' by President Trump.
