According to the UN, 74% of households in accessible government-held areas in Yemen are unable to meet their basic food needs due to increased fighting that has displaced tens of thousands and disrupted food supplies. An estimated 10 million people live in these areas, with the country importing about 90% of its food, and markets and aid access shrinking. The recent escalation between Saudi-backed government forces and the Iran-aligned Houthis, who control northern Yemen and Sanaa, worsens the food security crisis, the WFP reports.
