Gunmen Kill NSCDC Officer and Abduct Businessman in Plateau

Gunmen killed a serving Deputy Superintendent of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and abducted a businessman in Pushit, Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State. The attack occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday, despite a recently imposed dusk-to-dawn curfew in parts of the area. Community member Lawrence Tabitha said the businessman, who deals in fuel, cement and fertiliser, was abducted before the attackers shot the motorcycle-riding officer, whose headlight reportedly exposed their escape. Tabitha urged authorities to strengthen security and secure the businessman’s release; security operatives had not confirmed the incident by publication time.

Obi reaffirmed his vision of a “New Nigeria” where citizens are protected, young people are heard and human rights are respected. A 2021 Lagos State judicial panel report found that soldiers fired on unarmed protesters and identified at least 48 people who were shot, injured or assaulted.
