2026 Supplementary Finance Bill: Alfonse Mané Samb challenges budget projections and denounces cuts to social projects

During National Assembly debates on the 2026 supplementary finance bill, MP Alfonse Mané Samb challenged the projected budget deficit of 7.6% of GDP. He argued that low execution of investment spending could allow expenditures to be cut by about 450 billion CFA francs and the deficit improved by 1.6 to 2 percentage points. He denounced cuts to major water-transfer projects, whose funding fell from 50 billion to 8 billion CFA francs, and the removal of funding for 35 health centers and works involving 46 elementary schools and 46 middle schools. Samb also called for greater transparency on debt and the deficit and for lawmakers to receive all documents needed to review the bill.

Reps summon CBN governor over alleged unpaid pensions

Nigeria’s House of Representatives resolved to summon Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso to explain alleged breaches of pension agreements and unpaid benefits owed to retired bank employees. The motion, introduced by Hussaini Jallo, representative for Igabi in Kaduna State, cited disparities in benefits, unpaid arrears and the alleged exclusion of some pensioners from general increases. Jallo said the number of CBN pensioners fell from 5,104 in 2011 to about 3,000, warning that prolonged payment delays could expose elderly retirees to poverty and ill health. After adopting the motion, the House urged the authorities to verify and pay all legally owed arrears within a clearly defined period.

Osun APC Members Reject Oyebamiji-Led List and Insist Adeleke Head Presidential Campaign

Four members of the APC State Executive Committee in Osun reject the party’s parallel presidential campaign committee list, saying it violates party guidelines, due process and inclusiveness. Wole Adunola, Adesola Ayangbile, Rasheed Adeniji and Abiola Ololade object in particular to the exclusion of State Working Committee members. They say the new list conflicts with an earlier presidential directive naming Governor Ademola Adeleke to lead the state campaign, after which he inaugurated a broad-based team. The dissenting members urge the APC’s national leadership, especially its National Secretary, to intervene, prevent division and clarify the committees’ responsibilities.
